History of the Establishment of School of Nursing
The Faculty of Medicine, as the Study Program Management Unit, was founded in 1962 with an initial focus on medical education. Over time, based on feasibility studies and community needs, this faculty developed by adding new study programs. Currently, the Faculty of Medicine has one Doctoral Study Program, three Master's Study Programs, seventeen Specialist 1 Programs, and six Undergraduate Study Programs, including the School of Nursing, Faculty of Medicine, Udayana University.
The idea of ??establishing a School of Nursing, which was initially called the Nursing Science Study Program (PSIK), began to be designed in Bali in 1997. At that time, PSIK was established at several state universities under the Faculty of Medicine. However, due to the limited number of graduate lecturers in Bali, the plan to open a Diploma IV Nursing education program could not be realized. In 2002, after Bali had Masters of Nursing graduates and responded to requests from hospitals and Diploma III Nursing graduates, the first steps in establishing the School of Nursing began with an inquiry with the Dean of Faculty of Medicine, Udayana University.
This plan is becoming more concrete with support from various stakeholders. The Main Director of Sanglah General Hospital and the Head of the Bali Provincial Health Service gave positive responses and strong support, as conveyed at the coordination meeting on 26 June 2005. Similar support also came from the Governor of Bali, who stated the importance of undergraduate nursing education in Bali. In addition, the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, at Udayana University presented this plan at the UNUD Leadership Meeting in July 2005, which received constructive input and positive responses from university leaders.
World Health Organization (WHO) through its representative in Indonesia, Mr. Georg Patterson, also supported these plans, particularly in staff and curriculum development. Support from the Minister of Health of the Republic of Indonesia, the Chancellor of UNUD, the Head of the Bali Provincial Health Service, the Main Director of Sanglah Hospital, and the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, at Udayana University became an important basis for the formation of the School of Nursing.
After preparing the proposal, coordination was carried out with the Association of Indonesian Nurse Education Organizing Institutions (AIPPNI) in Jakarta. On the recommendation of the Chancellor of UNUD and the Head of the Bali Provincial Health Service, a special coaching visitation by the Central PPNI was carried out on March 23, 2006. Recommendations from the Central PPNI and the Head of PPSDM of the Ministry of Health resulted in the issuance of a Decree of the Director General of Higher Education, Ministry of National Education Number: 2682/D/T/2006 on 12 July 2006, which permitted to organize the School of Nursing (Bachelor Degree) at Udayana University. This permit continues to be renewed, and in 2019 the School of Nursing received "Very Good" accreditation based on Decree Number: 0192/LAM-PTKes/Akr/Pro/X/2020.
